What is InfoMine?
InfoMine is an online diagnostic toolkit designed to identify your information needs on the social firm sector and developing a social firm. It will guide you through a set of questions, and - based on your responses - will generate a report containing information tailored to your specific requirements. This report will provide you with access to relevant resources - such as guides, links to websites, fact sheets, case studies and various services - all in one place. It will also signpost you to invaluable information you may not even have realised you needed.
How does it work?
This video shows you how Infomine works. You can also have a look and fill out the questionnaire by pressing the Get Started button below, so you will know what we'll be asking and what type of information will you be given in the report. The time you need for filling out the questionnaire depends on your specific situation and information needs; but shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
To receive your report, just register with us and create an account at the end of the questionnaire, if you haven't done so already.
If you already have an account, then log in at Your Account. Here, you can read your saved reports, look up our information database or run InfoMine again.
Why should I do it?
After registration, you will get:
- tailor-made report containing all the information that you mentioned you needed - all in one place;
- access to our entire InfoMine database, covering a wide range of information about the social firm sector and developing social enterprises;
- your report stored in our database, so you can log back into your account at any time to consult it;
- if you complete the questionnaire at regular intervals, say once a year, you'll be able to follow your company's progress.
By completing the questionnaire, you will also enhance our knowledge about the social firm sector and help us in mapping its make up and needs. We will then be better equipped to support our sector, develop InfoMine and other tools and resources for you, and we'll be able to lobby for the sector more effectively.
What happens to the information that I enter?
All the information that you enter into our system will be treated in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, meaning that your personal data will be kept securely and processed fairly and lawfully. We will not give your personal details to any third party without your prior permission; and all information we get from you will be presented in aggregate if we publish data about the Social Firm sector.
We retain the right to contact you with news and information about social firms and matters affecting them.
Why are SFUK doing this?
Social Firms UK's mission is to support, strengthen and grow the Social Firm sector so that more people facing the most significant barriers to work can gain employment. InfoMine has been developed to help us achieve this mission by assisting people to find all the relevant information they need to set up, run, develop and grow a social firm.
How was InfoMine developed?
Social Firms InfoMine has been developed as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project between Social Firms UK and Middlesex University's Social Policy Research Centre. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships link business with academics and offer graduate associates the opportunity to gain experience running a project. KTPs are run and managed on behalf of the government funding organisations by the Technology Strategy Board, a non-departmental public body. Support from NOMS CFO and by Remploy has also been invaluable in getting the project off the ground.
The project team included:
|Company Supervisor:||Di Cunliffe, Social Firms UK|
|Knowledge Base Supervisor:||Alessio D'Angelo, Middlesex University|
|Knowledge Base Advisory Team:||Mel Evans, Fergus Lyon, Eleonore Kofman - Middlesex University|
|KTP Associate:||Carly Malling|
|Project Officer:||Magdolna Lőrinc, Middlesex University|
|Web Developer:||Fluster Design|
Now, have a look on Infomine! you can just glance through the questions without signing up, but you need to register to get your report and access our information database.
All along, you will be helped by additional information - explanation of terms and other help text - that will pop-up when clicking the question marks in blue circles.
We hope that you will find all the information you need!
And if you've got a gem of information that you know other people would find useful, please tell us about it in the evaluation questionnaire, so we can link it into Infomine. Get Started
